Are you Frozen? What does "let it go" really mean for you?

In a phone conversation with my sister today, I shared that I had fallen into an emotional hole where I felt stuck. I couldn’t seem to take any intentional actions to move my Heart Connections Horsemanship work forward to the next level of what I had envisioned and dreamed about.

My sister patiently listened to my story about all the different things I thought I should do and all the reasons why I couldn’t do them. Then she said, so, it’s like in the Disney movie Frozen, it sounds like you just need to let it go. We both laughed and broke into song. “Let it Go, Let it Go!”

Who can resist! When Elsa’s beautiful voice (Idina Menzel) sings the unforgettable hit song “Let it Go” we are moved to our core as Elsa's beautiful power is unleashed in a creative whirlwind from whence springs a wonderful array of ice creations – crystals with stunning geometric patterns, an amazingly engineered ice bridge, and a dazzling ice palace with a splendid staircase and crystal chandeliers. Awe inspiring creations!

But what is Elsa actually letting go of? As my sister and I often do, we ruminated on all the different interpretations there are in answer to this question. Some say Elsa is letting go of her fear. Others point out that Elsa is still afraid, so she is really just letting her emotions go in a storm, and that's what causes Arendelle to be stuck in a deep freeze. My sister and I finally agreed that, the answer is much simpler and more profound than these common interpretations.

Elsa is letting go of the "shoulds" and letting her creative energy go. She is finally embracing who she is. And, in the end, yes, it is all about love.

Even though I had seen the movie a dozen times (yes, I have kids and grandkids :), this simple and very clear understanding finally landed for me in a deeper way than it had before. It was an "ah ha" moment. Like Elsa, we all have this creative energy inside that we’ve either been trying to control or hide, stuck in the "shoulds", afraid of judgement, and afraid of our own power and not sure if it is “good” or “bad”, Ultimately, we are afraid of being who we are.

So, what is the way out? How do we become unfrozen? Well, it all comes down to an act of true love, to loving ourselves enough to let our creative energy go without judgement and without fear. It’s that simple and that profound.

I’m so grateful for my sister who listened to and loved me today and who reminded me to let it go.

Happy Birthday dear sister! Thank you for your gift today. Truly a special birth day in so many ways.

With love and gratitude,

Sheri
